The BoJ Is About to Do Nothing and We're Getting Paid For It

Polymarket is pricing a BoJ hold like it's a coin flip. It's not. Plus two more markets that forgot how math works.

Ueda is out here giving speeches about 'gradual normalization' and the market immediately starts pricing every BoJ meeting like it's the Fed in 2022. It's Tuesday, nothing is happening, and Polymarket is handing out free money on central bank inertia. Let's go.

Will the Bank of Japan announce no change at the September 2026 meeting?

Position: YES at 42¢.

The market has this at a 42% chance the BoJ does nothing in September. Have you *met* the BoJ? These guys held rates at zero for like two decades. Doing nothing is their entire personality.

Our model puts the true number at 62%. That's a 20-point gap on arguably the most predictable central bank on the planet. The base rate for 'hold' at any given BoJ meeting is well above 50%, and there's no acute inflation shock on the calendar forcing their hand in September.

Edge score: 78. Grade: A.

What kills it: a surprise yen crisis or a hot CPI print between now and September that actually forces Ueda to move. Not impossible. Just not 58%-likely impossible.

Will the Republican Party win the NC-09 House seat?

Position: YES at 80¢.

NC-09 is a durably red district. Like, structurally red. The kind of seat where the Republican could be caught on video eating a live pigeon and still win by 8.

Market says 80% GOP wins. We say 90%. You're paying 80¢ for something that should be closer to a dime-a-dollar lock. Not glamorous, but the 10-point spread is real edge on a district that hasn't been genuinely competitive in a long time.

Edge score: 72. Grade: A.

What kills it: a scandal, a redistricting curveball, or a Dem recruit we haven't seen coming. All possible. None currently priced into the picture.

Yes, 80¢ YES markets feel gross. We know. But this is what "boring value" looks like — and boring value pays rent.

Israel election: will Likud lose seats?

Position: YES at 91¢.

Okay this one's spicy because you're already paying 91 cents for a 9-cent payoff. We know how that reads. Hear us out.

Likud is coming off a high-water mark. The idea that they actually *gain* seats from where they are — after everything — is the tail the market is pricing at 9%. We think that tail is more like 4%.

The market has $10K+ volume and closes in late October. This isn't a thin book with weird prints. It's just slightly too generous on the 'Likud somehow gains' scenario.

Edge score: 65. Grade: A.

What kills it: variance. When you're laying -1011, one weird election result vaporizes 20 winning tickets. Size accordingly or don't touch it. Seriously.

---

Three A-grades, three different flavors of edge: central bank laziness, structural redness, and a mispriced tail. Pick your poison.

GL out there. Try not to lay -1000 on your rent money. (We won't ask.)
