Polymarket Forgot to Price This One
A ghost market on Polymarket is offering 50¢ on something that happens 8% of the time. Free money or free lesson?
It's Monday of an international break week, which means half of you are refreshing team news for friendlies nobody asked for and the other half are doom-scrolling Polymarket looking for a market with actual pulse. We found one. Kind of. It's less a market and more a crime scene.
Norway -4.5 vs Denmark
The market: 50¢ YES / 50¢ NO. A perfect coin flip on Norway winning by 5 or more goals against Denmark.
Our read: they're not winning by 5. Nobody's winning by 5. Denmark isn't Gibraltar. This is two competitive senior national sides, and a 5+ goal margin between teams like this happens roughly 8% of the time in a generous universe. The AI has this as an S-grade, -42 edge score monster.
So where's the edge coming from? It's not that the market disagrees with us. It's that there is no market. The order book is 0.1¢ bid / 99.9¢ ask. Nobody has traded this. The 50¢ you're seeing is a placeholder — the midpoint of a spread wide enough to drive a truck through. Polymarket is essentially showing you a price that doesn't exist.
Which is exactly the play. If you can get NO filled anywhere near 50¢ — even 40¢, even 30¢ — you're printing on a market that should be pricing closer to 92¢ NO.
What kills it: liquidity. You might sit on a limit order all week and never get filled, or fill for peanuts. This isn't a "back up the truck" bet, it's a "leave a resting order and forget about it" bet. The edge is real, the ability to actually deploy capital is the question mark.
Also worth saying out loud: -4.5 goal spreads on international football are the kind of market where weird stuff can happen. Red card in the 20th minute, Haaland decides it's his birthday, Denmark parks the bus badly. We're not saying it can't happen. We're saying 8% is already generous, and you're getting paid like it's 50/50.
Why This Kind of Market Exists
Quick PSA because we get this question every week: Polymarket lists a *lot* of markets. Way more than have actual traders. When you see a 50/50 line with a huge bid/ask spread, that's not the market's opinion — that's the market shrugging.
This is where the sharpest edges live on Polymarket, and also where you're most likely to sit around doing nothing. Both things are true. The trick is scaling in with resting limit orders and not chasing the ask like a maniac.
Yes we put a lot of thought into a game most of you weren't going to watch anyway. We know.
Set your limits, close the app, go outside. GL.
